Information About the Waiver Process
There are two classifications to a waiver:
– Full Waiver
– Comingled Waiver
» PROCESS FOR FULL WAIVERS
A full waiver is a current SLEO II officer who graduated from a strictly SLEO II ONLY Academy class, meaning there were no full-time BCPO recruits in the class.
Required steps to process a Full Waiver are as follows:
- A PTC-15 form (Request of Waiver of Training) is filled out and sent to your Department’s PTC representative for approval. The Academy and your Department both will then be notified of the Waiver approval by the PTC. (do not send to Academy)
- Update the approved candidate in the Acadis System via your Department’s portal – SLEO II to PO
- Once the PTC has approved your waiver(s), contact the Acting Director, John Tate, to reserve a seat in an upcoming BCPO class at JTate@co.ocean.nj.us
** WE WILL NOT RESERVE A SEAT WITHOUT A WAIVER APPROVAL LETTER FROM THE PTC **
NOTE: A full waiver needing to attend a BCPO Academy class or an Accelerated Waiver class is required to pass a Pre-Academy Physical Fitness Assessment.
Documents needed for Full Waivers attending a BCPO/Accelerated Waiver Academy class (we do not have any accelerated waiver courses scheduled at this time):
- A medical examination and PTC-8 form must be completed and signed by the examining physician and submitted to the Academy prior to participation of the Pre-Academy Physical Fitness Assessment
- A completed Academy application
- A hiring resolution from the municipality indicating appointment date and status from SLEO II to PO
- A psychological examination and PTC-9 form completed and signed by the examining doctor and submitted to the Academy. (Psychological evaluations are good for one year only. timeframe is strictly monitored by PTC)
- Urinalysis is required and can only be conducted at the State Lab. This must be submitted to lab within ninety (90) days of Academy orientation. Negative test results from the lab required 10 days prior to orientation. (strictly enforced by PTC)
- BCPO Agency Certification form
- A completed Agency Training Performance Objective Spreadsheet. Each PO should be initialed by Training Officer and sheet signed by Admin Officer and submitted to the Academy prior to the end of the Academy class
Waivers are also required to provide NJ Learn certifications in:
- Developmental Disabilities Awareness for First Responders
- Heroin/Opiate Investigation & Prosecution
- ICS-100 Incident Command
*These certifications are due within the first week of class. Most waivers should have already completed at least the first two while attending their SLEO II classes.
» PROCESS FOR COMINGLED WAIVERS
A comingled waiver is a current SLEO II officer who graduated from a comingled BCPO Academy class consisting of both full-time BCPO recruits and SLEO II recruits.
Required steps for a Comingled Waiver are as follows:
- A PTC-15 form (Request of Waiver of Training) is filled out and sent to your Department’s PTC representative for approval. The Academy and your Department will both be notified of the Waiver approval by the PTC. (do not send to Academy)
- Once the candidate is approved. update their title in the Acadis System via your Department’s portal from SLEO II to PO
Once the Academy receives the comingled waiver approval letter from the PTC, we will reach out to the department for required documents to complete the waiver process on our end. These documents MUST be sent back to our Academy to complete the process, NOT directly to the PTC.
Those documents requested to be sent to the Academy will be:
- A hiring resolution from the municipality indicating appointment date and status from SLEO II to PO
- Department Firearms Qualification
- BCPO Agency Certification form completed and signed
- PTC-3 Replacement form completed
*NOTE* All forms can be obtained on our website under Applications and Forms or from the PTC representative assigned to your Department, who can also address any questions you may have.
