DESCRIPTION:Learn the complex rules of Miranda to ensure you obtain admissible statements! \nMany of us were able to recite the Miranda warnings from watching TV long before we became cops. Although we can recite them\, many of us don’t really understand them. This class focuses on the basics of Miranda\, when officers are required to advise a suspect of his or her Miranda rights\, and how to obtain a valid waiver. There is a myth that only detectives advise subjects of their Miranda warnings. Not anymore! The use of body-worn cameras has given defense attorneys a front row seat to police citizen encounters to argue “custody.” \nThis class will teach officers how to obtain valid statements and capture them on their body-worn cameras.

This one-day course provides a simple explanation of the most common violations officers encounter while on patrol and is designed to provide officers with the “best practices” when conducting motor vehicle stops. The program also introduces officers to detecting possible criminal conduct during stops. \nOfficers will get an overview of \n\npre-stop indicators\,\nanalyzing behavior\,\nroadside questioning\,\ndeveloping probable cause for search\,\nand much more.

SUMMARY:Tactical Spanish for Law Enforcement
DESCRIPTION:This course will provide officers with an overview of critical phrases they need know to effectively communicate with Spanish speaking members of their community. \nEffective communication is critical for law enforcement and an inability to communicate can have dire results. As law enforcement officers we routinely interact with diverse groups of individuals\, and we need the ability to communicate with them. The course is designed to teach officers basic communication skills during common police-citizen encounters with Spanish speaking individuals. \nThis is not a “Death by PowerPoint” course. Participants will be interacting with the instructor throughout the course and learn common Spanish phrases and learn proper responses by engaging with the instructor. The best way to learn is by doing it!
