SUMMARY:Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation - Full (No Wait List)
DESCRIPTION:Full as of 1/28/22.  There will be no more officers added to a wait list as of 2/4/22. \nThis intensive course will cover the unique characteristics of commercial motor vehicles and the special dynamics at play when one is involved in a collision. \nDetailed information of the nomenclature and operation of commercial motor vehicles will provide you with a level of competence needed to have an adequate understanding of mechanical components\, parts and pieces of the commercial motor vehicle and how they may factor into your investigation. To reinforce the concepts presented\, you will conduct “hands-on” exercises and vehicle testing during the course. \nTopics Include \n\nTractor-trailer nomenclature\nBrake systems: configuration and operation\nWheels\, rims and tires\nSteering suspensions and frames\nTrailer coupling devices – fifth wheels\nDriver concerns – log books\nVehicle components\nCenter of mass determinations\nSkid mark measurements and speed analysis\nJackknifing\nRollover\nVehicle dynamics in braking\nWeight shifting\n\nCourse Length\n40 hours \nPrerequisite(s)\nThis course is designed for traffic crash investigators who have completed\, at a minimum\, BCI\, ACI and Traffic Crash Reconstruction.  You should have a good working knowledge of the techniques and applications of the formulas presented in the basic course\, as the presentation of mathematical formulas will build upon techniques already used by investigators. \nWhat to Bring – Required\nScientific calculator \nRecommended\nWork clothes for outside activities (including inclement weather)\nCamera and equipment to document field exercises \nACTAR Information\nIPTM’s Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation – Level I course is eligible for 40 ACTAR CEUs. \n
