SUMMARY:Managing Narcotics Informants
DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \nThis 24-hour course will instruct both new and experienced officers in the efficient\, safe and legal protocols for developing\, managing and deploying confidential informants. The student will learn interview techniques to obtain information\, and to convince suspects to cooperate with law enforcement officers. Briefing\, debriefing and interviewing of informants will be instructed as a well as techniques used to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the informant. The entire process from identification\, registration\, cooperation letters and contracts\, compensation to testimony preparation will be covered with an emphasis on officer and informant safety. \nCourse Objectives: \n1. Understand and identify different types of informants. \n2. Identify legal issues concerning the management of informants and techniques to make cases successful in court. \n3. Identify the different ways in which an informant can be used in a narcotics investigation. \n4. Demonstrate motivation techniques used to cultivate informants. \n5. Demonstrate techniques to maintain the safety\, integrity and confidentiality of the informant\, the officers involved\, and the undercover operation itself. \n6. Identify techniques used to maintain the safety and integrity of both the information and the officers involved in an undercover operation. \nCourse Length: 3 days (24 hours) \nWho may attend this class: \n1. Sworn Law Enforcement Officer (preferably those directly involved with investigations that may or currently do use informants).
